Archerfield, East Lothian

East Lothian must be my favourite area around Edinburgh - I’m biased as my family comes from Haddington but I love the coastal paths, beautiful forests, castles and its sunny (although breezy - we’re on the coast after all!) micro-climate. Dotted among the fields are some beautiful country houses and one of them is Archerfield, dating back to 17th century. The house was once a home to Robert Louis Stevenson and golf is thought to have been played there as far back as 16th century. So if you’re after some beautiful historical setting for your wedding day and you or your future spouse enjoys a bit of golf ,this place might be an ideal option.

From my selfish point of view as photographer options for beautiful photo locations at Archerfield are endless. Most importantly you don’t need to leave your guests for an extended period of time as nice locations as Archerfield House Loch are just down a short path from the house. For the ceremonies there are many available options inside the house (spacious downstairs can hold a larger ceremonies as well as dining reception and the first floor rooms offer more intimate ceremony options as well as beautiful getting ready locations). If you decide to have your ceremony outside the front of the house lawn is perfect for ceremonies and drinks receptions in the sunshine. If you’re moving your evening reception to the spacious Pavilion situated on the coast, you can nip out for some evening portraits during sunset/golden hour with an iconic views of the Fidra lighthouse as your background.
