The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh

The Victorian clock tower of the Balmoral Hotel is one of the most iconic landmarks of Edinburgh. I love checking time on its clock as I walk down Princes Street because I know it gives you 3 minutes to spare (so that you don’t miss your train!) as I don’t like to be late for anything. It only shows correct time on Hogmanay which is the Scottish New Year. This is one of the most versatile venues in central Edinburgh - I photographed there some grand parties with over a hundred of Royal Marines and elegant but much smaller destination weddings - in any case you’re getting access the the rooftop of the hotel for a very special location for your portraits. It is spacious with a comfortable wooden decking and breathtaking views over the city and the Edinburgh Castle. I recommend nipping out to Princes Street or Waverley Bridge in the afternoon, when the shopping crowds leave more space after 5 pm. I was the Scottish weather is not playing ball, the stain-glass window staircase at the hotel offers some nice space for indoor portraits and you can always ask your dedicated wedding planner which spaces are available on the day if you want me to take your friends and family group portraits in a particular location (Sir Walter Scott Suite is my favourite choice here). It is the best of the best of the central Edinburgh hospitality (also for the Harry Potter fans iykyk).
