Borthwick Castle

If there is a definition of a perfect Scottish castle luxury experience, where you can feel like Mary Queen of Scots herself (and she did stay there!) Borthwick Castle near Edinburgh is the top of that list. The castle is a grand double-tower fortress from 1430 with a spectacular dining hall where you can truly recreate an ancient feast or a wedding ceremony. The inside however is nothing short of luxury. The only downside in my opinion is that this medieval castle, beautifully refurbished and run by a friendly and helpful team to the highest standard of luxury hospitality does not have a lift. It might be a minor inconvenience worth factoring into your timing on the wedding day - it might take some elderly relatives longer than you think to get up or down to the top of the castle where the indoor ceremonies are usually held in a spacious vaulted room. The food, the experience and the location will compensate for these minor inconveniences ten fold. I just must remember NOT to leave any of my batteries downstairs when photographing on top of that 600 years old castle!
