Hopetoun House, nr South Queensferry

One of the most opulent and largest stately homes to get married in Scotland. Celebrating your wedding day takes you through a journey through the house with the ceremony at the former stables, through the arcades to the other side where the drinks reception and dancing take place. If you choose to do so, the grand main staircase leading to the main entrance of the house is great for a large group photographs. I can’t recommend highly enough doing your family and bridal party photos inside of the historical interior. If you keep the number of combinations reasonable you’ll still get enough time for your portraits especially in the magnificent 18th century entrance hall and the rooms just off it. My recommendation is to split your portraits into two parts with the second part happening in the evening. This is the best time to access the grounds (it is worth asking if the fountains will be on on the day) and the tree lined walk to the side of the house to get the best point of view. Some of my clients wanted also a photoshoot on the coast nearby so if you’d like that, it might be worth factoring a quick nip into the Dalmeny and the entrance gates to the house. Otherwise it is time to hit the party and the bar in Tapestry Room. I found the ballroom to be one of the best locations for a vigorous ceilidh as you will have enough space for even the most dynamic strip-the-willow.
