The Intercontinental George Hotel (The Principal Hotel), Edinburgh

This Category A listed building is another great place for some truly grand wedding celebrations with its showstopping ballroom chandelier, vast dance floor and high ceilings. The penthouse suite with views over the city and a large terrace is a great place if you are planning to getting ready with all your bridesmaids and the hotel also gives you access for peaceful private gardens in Queen Street on your wedding day. It is a couple of minutes walk downhill from the hotel but it is worth leaving your wedding party for half an hour to get some greenery into your wedding day photography in this otherwise very urban looking setting. It is worth bearing in mind that having large group photographs taken there requires some careful logistics so that it works with your wedding day schedule but I handled so many weddings there I know now that I need to ask for a ladder well in advance from the helpful hotel staff.
